Orangeburg, NY (9/8/08) The visiting Purple Knights of the University of Bridgeport blanked the Dominican College Lady Chargers, 6-0 this afternoon in a non-conference soccer game at the DC Soccer Field.

Orangeburg, NY (9/8/08)  The visiting Purple Knights of the University of Bridgeport blanked the Dominican College Lady Chargers, 6-0 this afternoon in a non-conference soccer game at the DC Soccer Field.

UB wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as junior forward Sopfia Hoflin (Ostersund, Sweden) netted a goal off the dish by Emma Woolley (Sheffield, England) just two minutes into the game.  Ten minutes later sophomore forward Linda Velaj (Stamford, CT) netted her first goal of the day as she connected on a shot from the 18 yard line into the net.

The Purple Knights took a 3-0 lead four minutes later as Hoflin returned the favor to Woolley with a beautiful pass which allowed Woolley to find the net.

Velaj went on to score three consecutive UB goals, two in the first half and one late in the second to finish the day with four goals and give the Purple Knights the 6-0 victory.

The Purple Knights controlled the offensive end of the game, out shooting the Lady Chargers 28-7.

Lady Charger keeper Valentina Sturchio (Stewartsville, NJ) had seven saves in the loss, while Purple Knight keeper Jillian Atwood (West Dover, VT) had two saves in the second half in relief of starter Elina Yletyinen (Lulea, Sweden).

With the win the University of Bridgeport improves their record to 3-0-1, while Dominican falls to 1-2 on the year.

The Lady Chargers are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Concordia College in a non-conference game slated to begin at 3:30 pm.
