MERCY COLLEGE MAVERICKS RALLY TO DEFEAT LADY CHARGERS VOLLEYBALL
Orangeburg, NY (9/18/08) After losing the opening set, the visiting Mavericks of Mercy College rallied to win the next three as they defeated the Dominican College Lady Chargers, 3-1 (20-25, 25-13, 25-13, 25-13) this evening on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.

Orangeburg, NY (9/18/08) After losing the opening set, the visiting Mavericks of Mercy College rallied to win the next three as they defeated the Dominican College Lady Chargers, 3-1 (20-25, 25-13, 25-13, 25-13) this evening on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
With the loss Dominican falls to 0-7 overall, while Mercy improves to 4-8.
The Lady Chargers looked strong in the first set, jumping out to a 5-1 lead. MC rallied to knot the game at 11-11 on a kill by Crasheena Ward (Danbury, CT) and took the lead on a service ace by Bridgette Pennelle (Hawthorne, NY). Dominican came back to take a 21-19 lead en route to a 25-20 first set win.
The second set was knotted at 10-10 when the Mavericks charged ahead with 10-1 run to take a 20-11 lead en route to a set tying 25-13 win.
Mercy continued on the offensive in the third and fourth sets, winning each by scores of 25-13.
Sophomore middle hitter Shedeiky Hamilton (Yallahs, Jamaica) led the Mavericks with 16 kills on the night. Junior Diana Bruzzone (Guayaquil, Ecuador) was the second of three Mercy players in double figures in kills with 13 and Ward finished with 10 kills. Setter Pennelle had 34 assists, while Ashley Zufeit (Farmington, N) had four aces in the win.
The Lady Chargers were led by senior Ashley Simpson (Spring Valley, NY) with nine kills and two blocks. Fellow senior Kinikia Collier (Garnerville, NY) added eight kills and five digs, while sophomore Akirrah Cooper (Bronx, NY) had six kills in the loss. Setter Lauren Palermo (Ottisville, NY) had 19 assists.
Dominican is back this weekend as they take on Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham, CCNY and Hunter College at a tournament being hosted by FDU-Florham. DC will face FDU-Florham at 12pm.
