WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL SLIDES BY BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE
Orangeburg, NY (9/10/09) The Dominican College women's volleyball team beat the visiting Deacons of Bloomfield College this evening, 3-2 (25-15, 25-27, 25-21, 19-25, 16-14), in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match held on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
Orangeburg, NY (9/10/09) The Dominican College women's volleyball team beat the visiting Deacons of Bloomfield College this evening, 3-2 (25-15, 25-27, 25-21, 19-25, 16-14), in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match held on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
DC never trailed in the first set as they quickly scored six unanswered points for a 6-0 lead. The Deacons came back to trail 11-10, but another 6-0 run by the Lady Chargers put the set away as they went on to the 25-15 win.
The second set was a tough battle as neither team led by more than two points. With the set tied at 25, a DC attack error and a service ace by Ursula Pereira (Minas Gerais, Brazil) gave the Deacons the 27-25 set victory.
Dominican jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the third set and increased the lead to 17-10 as they charged to the 25-19 set win to take a 2-1 lead.
With the fourth set knotted at 11-11, the Deacons went on an 8-3 spurt to take a 19-14 lead and never looked back en route to the 25-19 set win and force the fifth and deciding game.
The fifth set was another tough battle as both teams tallied points. With the score at 14-14, DC rallied with two straight points on a kill by CACC Rookie of the Week, Michelle Fiorvanti (Commack, NY) and a service ace by setter Whitney Ranger (Ventura, CA) to give Dominican the 16-14 set win and 3-2 match victory.
Tiffany Jackson (Central Islip, NY) and Pereira led the Deacons with nine kills a pece, while Gabriella Betoni (Santa Catarina, Brazil) adding 30 assists in the loss.
The Lady Chargers had three players in double digits in kills as Fiorvanti finished with 16 kills. Freshman Kristen Loney (Pine Bush, NY) added 11 kills and two blocks, while Ranger had 10 kills and match leading 46 assists in the win. Freshman libero Jordyn Fuller (Keller, TX) tallied 18 defensive digs.
With the victory Dominican improves to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the CACC, while Bloomfield falls to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the CACC.
Dominican is back in action this weekend at the Le Moyne College Invitational. DC will take on Post University and American International on Saturday. Game times are 3:45pm and 6pm.
