WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL DROPS SEASON OPENER AT 2010 SAINT LEO LION CLASSIC
Saint Leo, FL (9/3/10) The Dominican College women's team dropped their opening match of the 2010 Saint Leo Lion Classic, 3-0 (18-25, 18-25, 13-25) to the University of West Georgia this morning.

The Wolves opened up the first set with six consecutive points, but the Lady Chargers fought back to cut the deficit to 8-7. A 7-0 run by West Georgia rebuilt a 18-9 advantage, but DC came back to cut the lead to 21-18. The Wolves closed out the first set with four straight points for the 25-18 set win.
DC opened up the second set with a 4-1 edge and extended their lead to 13-7, before an 11-3 run by West Georgia put them ahead 18-16. A service error brought the Lady Chargers to within a point, but the Wolves the next seven of eight points for the 25-18 second set win and 2-0 match lead.
Dominican opened the third set with an ace for a 1-0 lead, but West Georgia answered back with 10 unanswered points to take a 10-1 advantage as they went on to the 25-13 win and 3-0 match victory.
Sophomore outside hitter Michelle Fiorvanti (Commack, NY) led the Lady Chargers with seven kills. Senior Yashani Smith (West Haverstraw, NY) tallied four kills, while Courtney Heard (Ventura, CA) and Whitney Ranger (Ventura, CA) each recorded three kills a piece. Ranger also added 12 assists in the loss.
With the loss Dominican falls to 0-1 on the season, while West Georgia improves to 1-0.
DC is back in action this afternoon as they take on Saginaw Valley State University at 2:30 pm.
