WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL FALL TO CALDWELL COLLEGE
Orangeburg, NY (9/17/10) The Dominican College women's volleyballs squad dropped their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match of the season as they were defeated by the visiting Caldwell College Cougars, 3-1 (25-23, 17-25, 20-25, 20-25) this evening on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
Orangeburg, NY (9/17/10) The Dominican College women's volleyballs squad dropped their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match of the season as they were defeated by the visiting Caldwell College Cougars, 3-1 (25-23, 17-25, 20-25, 20-25) this evening on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
The Lady Chargers rallied in set one after trailing 14-10 with four straight points to tie the set at 14-14. Both teams swapped points back and forth to once again be knotted at 22-22. Back-to-back kills by Michelle Fiorvanti (Commack, NY) and Randi Garrett (Rockledge, FL) put DC ahead 24-22. The Cougars pulled within a point with a kill of their own, but setter Whitney Ranger (Ventura, CA) got the set winning kill to put Dominican ahead 1-0.
DC opened up the second set with a 1-0 lead, but Caldwell answered back to take a 10-6 lead and never looked back en route to the 25-17 set win. The Cougars continued on the offensive in the third set as they quickly jumped out to a 9-3 lead and won the set 25-20 for a 2-1 match lead.
In the decisive fourth set, both teams traded points and were tied 10-10, when Caldwell when on a 5-1 run to take a 15-10 edge. Dominican fought back to cut the deficit to 20-18 and later to 22-20, but consecutive DC attack errors and a match winning kill for Caldwell gave them the 25-20 set win and 3-1 match victory.
Garrett led Dominican with nine kills on the night, while Ranger finished with eight kills and team leading 31 assists. Fiorvanti had seven kills, while Kerianne Dudley (Nanuet, NY) and Courtney Heard (Ventura, CA) both finished with six kills each in the loss. N'Jameh Philip (Monroe, NY) led the team with 10 defensive digs.
Following the loss Dominican drops to 5-8 overall and 2-1 in the CACC.
The Lady Chargers return to action tomorrow as they travel to the University of Bridgeport for a non-conference tri-match against the host and Southern Connecticut State University.
