WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL BEATS POST UNIVERSITY
Orangeburg, NY (10/18/10) The Dominican College women's volleyball team rallied from an 0-1 deficit to defeat the visiting Eagles of Post University 3-2 (18-25, 25-20, 25-13, 21-25, 15-6) this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division Clash on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
Orangeburg, NY (10/18/10) The Dominican College women's volleyball team rallied from an 0-1 deficit to defeat the visiting Eagles of Post University 3-2 (18-25, 25-20, 25-13, 21-25, 15-6) this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division Clash on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
The Eagles took an early 1-0 match lead after taking the first set, in which they never trailed, 25-18. Junior Courtney Braun (Groton, CT) had a service run of five straight points for Post.
Tied 8-8 in set two, Dominican went on a 6-2 run to take a 14-10 lead and never looked back en route to the 25-20 win to knot the match at 1-1.
The third set was tied 5-5 when they Lady Chargers went on a 10-4 tear to take a 15-9 lead. A kill by outside hitter Michelle Fiorvanti (Commack, NY) put DC at set point, 24-13, and a Eagle attack error solidified the 25-13 win and give DC a 2-1 advantage in the match.
Like set one, the Eagles never trailed in the fourth set as they quickly built up a 6-0 lead. Down 8-2, the Lady Chargers rallied with a 6-1 spurt to pull within a point, 8-9 and later would tie the set at 18-18, before Post went on to outscore DC 7-3 for the match tying 25-21 set win.
The first seven points of the final set saw the Lady Chargers with a 4-3 advantage on a kill by Fiorvanti. Up 7-5, Dominican went on to outscore their opponents 8-1 for the 15-6 set win and 3-2 match victory.
Freshman Randi Garrett (Rockledge, FL) and Fiorvanti each tallied 10 kills a-piece to lead Dominican in the victory. Senior Kerianne Dudley (Nanuet, NY) contributed seven kills, while Whitney Ranger (Ventura, CA) had 36 assists. Libero Jordyn Fuller (Keller, TX) had a team leading 15 defensive digs, while Catherine Giordano (Stony Point, NY) added 11 digs.
With the victory Dominican improves to 13-14 overall and 10-4 in the CACC and revenged an earlier season loss to the Eagles in Waterbury, CT.
Dominican returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Philadelphia University for a CACC contest scheduled for 1pm.
