Nyack, NY (11/3/10) The Dominican College women's volleyball team suffered a tough, 3-2, (26-28, 25-16, 25-14, 22-25, 26-28) loss to host Nyack College this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division Clash held at Bowman Gymnasium. With the loss Dominican falls to 15-16 overall and 12-6 in conference play.
Nyack, NY (11/3/10) The Dominican College women's volleyball team suffered a tough, 3-2, (26-28, 25-16, 25-14, 22-25, 26-28) loss to host Nyack College this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division Clash held at Bowman Gymnasium. With the loss Dominican falls to 15-16 overall and 12-6 in conference play.
Dominican held an 8-3 lead in set one, but Nyack came back to tie the set at 14-14. Later tied 26-26 after a Michelle Fiorvanti (Commack, NY) kill, a service error and a Warrior kill gave Nyack a 28-26 set one victory.
The Lady Chargers never trailed in the second set as they scored the first five points and led by as many as nine points en route to the 25-16 win and 1-1 match tie.
Tied 5-5 in set three, DC outscored NC 15-5 over the next 20 points to take a 20-10 lead as they went on to the 25-14 win and took a 2-1 match lead.
DC scored the first six points of the fourth set and jumped out to a 12-4 lead, but a 9-1 tear by the Warriors gave them a 19-16 advantage and they would not relinquish their lead en route to the 28-26 win and force the decisive fifth set.
The fifth set a close knit battle as the teams traded points. DC was at match point three times during the set but could not close out the set. With the set tied 26-26, back-to-back Warrior kills gave them the 28-26 win and 3-2 match victory.
Fiorvanti led all attackers with a career-tying 25 kills and a .365 attack percentage. Setter Whitney Ranger (Ventura, CA) tallied 46 assists and six kills, while senior Catherine Giordano (Stony Point, NY) also added six kills in the loss. Libero Jordyn Fuller (Keller, TX) led four players in double figures in digs with 36 defensive digs.
Dominican is back in action on Saturday as they host Goldey-Beacom College in the final match of the regular season. Game time is 12pm for Senior Day on Coach Baxter Court.
