Orangeburg, NY (11/9/10) The third-seeded Bloomfield College Deacons in the North Division rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat the second-seeded Lady Chargers of Dominican College, 3-2 (25-21, 18-25, 25-14, 21-25, 11-15) this evening in a 2010 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Volleyball Tournament Quarter-Final match on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
Orangeburg, NY (11/9/10) The third-seeded Bloomfield College Deacons in the North Division rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat the second-seeded Lady Chargers of Dominican College, 3-2 (25-21, 18-25, 25-14, 21-25, 11-15) this evening in a 2010 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Volleyball Tournament Quarter-Final match on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
Bloomfield took a 6-0 lead in the first set and held a 14-11 lead, when the Lady Chargers went on an 8-0 tear to take a 19-14 advantage which they would not relinquish en route to the 25-21 set victory. The Deacons never trailed in the second set as they opened up with a 7-4 lead and never looked back as they went on to a 25-18 win.
Dominican answered back in set three as they quickly built up a 10-2 advantage as libero Jordan Fuller (Keller, TX) served seven straight points. Leading 23-14, back-to-back kills by sophomores Courtney Heard (Ventura, CA) and Michelle Fiorvanti (Commack, NY) closed out the set with the 25-14 Lady Charger victory.
Tied 12-12 in the fourth set, BC went on an 8-3 run to gain a 20-15 lead and would later go on to the 25-21 set win and force the decisive fifth set.
The fifth set saw both team battle back and forth during the first twelve points to be knotted at 6-6. A 5-1 spurt by the Deacons saw them gain a 11-7 lead. DC pulled within two points, 11-13 on a Fiorvanti kill but back-to-back DC attack errors saw the Deacons come away with the 15-11 win and 3-2 match victory.
Fiorvanti led all attackers with 22 kills, while Heard finished with 10 kills. Senior Yashni Smith (West Haverstraw, NY) added eight kills, while setter Whitney Ranger (Ventura, CA) also tallied eight kills and had a match leading 50 assists. Fuller finished with match leading 30 defensive digs, while senior Catherine Giordano (Stoney Point, NY) added 11 digs.
With the loss Dominican ends their season with an 16-17 overall record and marks the final collegiate game for seniors Smith, Giordano and Kerianne Dudley (Nanuet, NY).
