VOLLEYBALL DEFEATS FELICIAN COLLEGE
Rutherford, N.J. (11/2/12) The Dominican College volleyball team extended their winning streak to 16 matches after defeating host, Felician College, 3-1, this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match played at Job Gymnasium. With the win Dominican improves to 22-7 overall and 18-0 in conference play.
Dominican never trailed in set one as they scored the first three points and quickly built up an 11-7 lead. Ahead 23-19, back-to-back kills from Michelle Fiorvanti (Commack, N.Y.) amd Whitney Ranger* (Ventura, Calif.) closed out a 25-19 win.
The Golden Falcons answered back in the second set as they jumped out to an 7-2 lead and won 25-13 to tie the match at 1-1.
The score was tied at 9-9 in the third set when the Lady Chargers went on a 10-3 scoring run to go ahead 19-3. Fiorvanti later gave DC a 25-19 win with a set ending kill.
DC closed out the match like they began it, by never trailing in the fourth set. Senior Courtney Heard (Ventura, Calif.) put Dominican up 11-5 with a kill and they continued on the offensive by outscoring their opponents 5-1 over the next six points to make the score 16-6. Libero Jordyn Fuller* (Keller, Texas) put the team at mach point with a service ace and later a serving error by FC gave the team the 25-17 win and 3-1 match victory.
Freshman Tori Dexter (Selah, Wash.) led the team with 14 kills and a .407 hitting percentage on the night.
Fiorvanti finished with 10 kills, while Kristen Loney (Pine Bush, N.Y.) had seven kills.
Ranger finished with six kills and 34 assists and 10 defensive digs.
N'Jameh Philip (Monroe, N.Y.) added 11 digs in the win.
Dominican is back in action tomorrow at Holy Family University.
