Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. (8/27/18) The Lady Chargers Women's Volleyball team traveled to Mercy College for an out of conference match in the early part of the 2018 regular season. The Lady Chargers entered Monday's match with a record of 0-2 after dropping both matches on Saturday to Southern Connecticut State University and Pace University.

The Mavericks of Mercy College swept the Lady Chargers by a match score of three sets to none. The Mavericks took both sets one and two by a score of 25-19 and finished off the Lady Chargers in set number three by a score of 25-12. The Mavericks improved to 2-1 on the season as the Lady Chargers fall to 0-3.

In the first set, both teams were evenly matched until the Mavericks extended out to a four-point lead. The Lady Chargers fought back, but the Mavericks were able to secure the victory for the opening set. In the second set, the Mavericks got off to a strong start and held the lead to secure the 25-19 win and took a 2-0 match lead. The Mavericks closed out their second win of the year after securing the third and final set of the match.

Gabrielle Napoleon (Springfield, Pa.) recorded 7.5 points (six kills) and added six digs in the loss while Emmalyn LaPier (Endicott, N.Y.) scored seven points (five kills). Deanna Knopf (Hauppauge, N.Y.) scored six points (five kills) and recorded 10 digs. Malia Robinson (Jersey City, N.J.) added six points (six kills) and seven digs.

Lily Ainsworth (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led the way in assists for Dominican with 15 while Essence Boyd (Peekskill, N.Y.) added eight assists in the loss.

Leah Petty led all scoring with 13 points for the Mavericks and Sophia Flanders led both teams in assists with 30.

The Lady Chargers will be back in action on Wednesday, September 5th when they travel to Caldwell University for the first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) conference game of the season with the Cougars at 7:00 PM.
