Dominican Chargers Sweep CACC Double Header Against NJIT
Nyack, NY (4/2/06) The regionally ranked Dominican College baseball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double header from the New Jersey Institute of Technology this afternoon to take the three game series 3-1. The Chargers won the first game 8-1 and the second game 15-5.
Dominican Chargers Sweep CACC Double Header Against NJIT
Nyack, NY (4/2/06) The regionally ranked Dominican College baseball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double header from the New Jersey Institute of Technology this afternoon to take the three game series 3-1. The Chargers won the first game 8-1 and the second game 15-5.
Dominican rallied with two outs in the bottom of the first to take a 4-0 lead which started off with a walk to Tom Keegan (Dickson City, PA). Peter Gilardo (Cornwall, NY) followed with a single to right and both came around to score on the single to right by Eliezer Nunez (Brooklyn, NY). Jose Escalera (Bronx, NY) was then hit by a pitch with set up a two run single to right by Sean Brown (Massapequa, NY).
The Highlanders got a run back in the top of the third after Dan Morogiello (Whitehouse Station, NJ) hit a one out double to right and came around to score on the single to left by center fielder Derrick McCain (Piscataway, NJ).
DC took a 7-1 lead after scoring three more runs in the fifth inning, after Escalera, Chad Duesler (Northville, NY) and Brown all recorded RBIs. The Chargers ended the scoring run in the sixth inning as Nunez hit an RBI double to left, scoring Keegan who had singled to get on for the 8-1 victory.
Winning pitcher Joe Catanese (Huntington, NY) improved to 2-1 on the year, while Robert Forbes (West Caldwell, NJ) dropped to 1-3.
In the night cap, Dominican held a 5-0 after two innings. In the first, Jose Made (Binghamton, NY), Nunez, Escalera, and Gilardo all had singles with Nunez, Gilardo and sophomore Joe Kubanik (Stony Point, NY) recording RBIs. In the second Made hit a triple to right, followed by a walk to Nunez and a two run double to right by Escalera.
Keegan increased the lead to 6-0 on a solo home run to left in the third. NJIT got two runs back in the fourth on an RBi single by Matt Schlitter (Harbeson, DE) and an RBI ground out by Anthony D'Agosta (Lyndhurst, NJ) to cut the lead to 6-2.
Dominican exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning to take a 13-2 lead, but NJIT got two back in the fifth and added on ein the sxith to make the score 13-5. Dominican put two more on the board in the sixth as they went on to the 15-5 victory.
Charger starter Daniel Bucci (Dobbs Ferry, NY) picked up his fourth win of the season, going five innings and allowign five hits and striking out seven. P.J. Saporito (New Milford, NJ) suffered the loss, allowing seven runs and ten hits in three innings.
With the wins, the Chargers improve to 19-10 and 6-1 in the CACC, while the Highlanders fall to 9-10 and 2-6 in the CACC.
DC is back in action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Mercy College for a non-conference game.
