Dominican Baseball Takes Two From #7 Felician College

Blauvelt, NY (4/19/06)  The Dominician College baseball team swept a Central Altantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double header from #7 regionally ranked Felician College this afternoon at Veteran's Memorial Park.

In game one, Felician jumped ahead 1-0 as John Tingos doubled to lead off the inning and scored on the RBI single by Michael Libretta.

The Chargers tied the game in the fifth as Mike Zani (Goshen, NY) got a one out single, stole second base and came in to score on the two out RBI single by Eliezer Nunez (Brooklyn, NY) to tie the game at 1-1.

In the eighth inning, senior Chad Duesler (Northville, NY) got a two out single and Frank Maynard, Jr (Brooklyn, NY) came in to pinch run.  After stealing second and moving to third on a balk, catcher Peter Gilardo (Cornwall, NY) singled in the game winning run as DC picked up the 2-1 win.

Junior Matt Dilgen (Staten Island, NY) improved to 4-3 on the year.

In the night cap, Dominican took a 2-0 lead in the third as Jose Made (Binghamton, NY) reached on an error by the shortstop, followed by a single from Zani to put runners on first and second.  Keith Gebert (Brooklyn, NY) reached on an error by the first basemen and Nunez singled in Made, followed by a two out double by Jose Escalera (Bronx, NY) for the 2-0 lead.

Felician got a run back in the fourth as Gilbert Gonzalez singled and came in to score on the RBI single by Alex Noguera.

DC got the run back in the bottom stanza as Tom Keegan (Dickinson City, PA) singled and later scored on the RBI single by Made as DC took a 3-1 lead.

Felician tied the game in the top of the fifth as Vin Dibenedetti hit a two run homer with no outs.

The Chargers rallied in the bottom of the seventh as Gebert got a lead off walk and was sacrificed over to second by NunezDuesler singled to put runners at the corners, followed by a stolen base by pinch runner Maynard, Jr who came in for DueslerEscalera followed with an RBI single to score Gebert and lift the Chargers to 4-3 victory.

Charger starter Daniel Bucci (Dobbs Ferry, NY) went five innings in the no decision.  Reliever Michael Mondesir (Jamaica, NY) improved his record to 2-2 on the win, pitching two innings and allowing only one walk.

With the wins, Dominican improves to 28-12 on the year, and stayed atop of the CACC witha 15-2 record.
