Charger Baseball Take Two From Bloomfield College
Bloomfield, NJ (4/25/06) The Dominican College baseball team improved to 18-2 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC)and 31-12 overall with a double-header sweep of Bloomfield College this afternoon.
The Chargers exploded for five runs in the second inning as catcher Peter Gilardo (Cornwall, NY) hit a one out double and came in to score on the double by Chad Duesler (Northville, NY). Tom Keegan (Dickson City, PA) reached on an error by the left fielder as Duesler came in to score as DC took a 2-0 lead. After a single to Joe Kubanik (Stony Point, NY), shortstop Jose Made (Binghamton, NY) hit an RBI double and senior Mike Zani (Goshen, NY) hit a two run double to score Kubanik and Made for the 5-0 lead.
DC added a run in the third inning as Eliezer Nunez (Brooklyn, NY) was hit by a pitch to start the inning and moved to third on a single by Jose Escalera (Bronx, NY). He game in to score on a double play out as Dominican took a commanding 6-0 lead.
Bloomfield struck for four runs in the fifth and sixth innings but, the Chargers tacked on three runs in the sixth to increase the lead to 9-4. Made and Zani had back to back singles and Made later came in to score on a BC error. Nunez followed with an RBI triple and came in to score on the RBI single by Escalera.
BC added a run in the bottom of the seventh inning, but couldn't pull out the victory.
Charger pitcher Matt Dilgen (Staten Island, NY) improved to 5-3 on the year, going six innings and striking out five Deacons. Reliever Brendan Bohan (Rutherford, NJ) pitched the last inning, striking out two batters.
In the night cap, DC put two runs on the board in the first inning as Zani and Made started off the game with back to back singles. After a sacrifice bunt by Nunez to advance the runners, Gilardo came through with an two run single.
In the second inning, Dominican added four runs to extend their lead to 6-2. Keegan walked to start the inning, proceeded to steal second and came around to score as Nick Schreiber (Greencastle, PA) reached on a BC error. Keith Gebert (Brooklyn, NY) followed with a single and advanced to home on an error which also allowed Schreiber to score as DC took a 5-0 lead. Zani hit another single, advanced to second on a wild pitch, stole third and scored on the RBI ground out by Made.
Bloomfield added two runs in the bottom of the sixth for the final 6-4 score.
Dominican pitcher Joe Catanese (Huntington, NY)
got the complete game win to improve to 4-1 on the year,
striking out eight batters.
