Dominican's Made Named CACC Rookie of The Year

New Haven, CT (5/9/06) - Bloomfield College shortstop Lino Mariot has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Player of the Year in balloting released today. Ken McGrady of Wilmington was voted as the Pitcher of the Year and Dominican shortstop Jose Made is the Rookie of the Year. Coach of the Year honors went to Matt Belford of Bloomfield and the recipient of the annual Team Sportsmanship Award is Nyack College.  The voting was conducted by the league's 10 head coaches.

Mariot, who has earned All-CACC First Team honors three times in his career, ranks among league leaders in almost every offensive category.  Mariot, a senior from Perth Amboy, NJ, stands first in hits (79), doubles (19) and stolen bases (42), and is tied for first in runs scored (53).  Furthermore, he ranks second in batting average (.411), third in RBI (44) and fourth in slugging percentage (.589).

McGrady, a junior left-hander from Rising Sun, MD, went 8-1 during the regular-season and leads the CACC in wins and ERA (2.20).  He is also fourth in opponent batting average (.228). In 10 starts he recorded two complete games, one shutout, and allowed 56 hits in 64.1 innings of work to go with 50 strikeouts and only 14 walks.

Made, who hails from Binghamton, NY, made an immediate impact in his first collegiate season for the Chargers.  He ranks fifth in the CACC in batting average (.379), is tied for first in runs scored (53), stands second in hits (74) and total bases (103), and has a league-best eight triples. Made was a second-team All-CACC pick.
