Dominican Baseball To Compete In NCAA Northeast Region Tournament
Blauvelt, NY (5/15/06) The Dominican College baseball team, who is ranked sixth in the Northeast Region, will participate in the 2006 NCAA Division II Northeast Region Tournament for the first time in program history. The tournament will be held at Franklin Pierce College in Rindge, NH beginning Thursday, May 18. The Chargers, who captured their second consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament title this past Saturday, are seeded fifth and will take on second-seeded University of New Haven in the first round.

The field includes top seeded Franklin Pierce College, third seeded University of Massachusetts-Lowell, fourth seeded Southern Connecticut State University and sixth seeded Dowling College. The Chargers lost to Dowling College, 5-1 on March 15 and have not played against any other of other teams.
The regionals will comprise six teams competing in double-elimination tournaments. Eight regional competitions will be played May 18-21, at eight on-campus sites. Regional champions will advance to the double-elimination championship finals May 27 to June 3 at Paterson Field in Montgomery, Alabama, which will be hosted by Valdosta State University and the city of Montgomery.
Twenty conferences receive automatic qualification into the 2006 championship. Dominican, coached by Rick Giannetti, earned the CACC's first automatic qualifier in baseball by defeating Felician College this past weekend.
This year marks the 39th annual championship, and the 22nd consecutive year that the finals will be held in Montgomery, Alabama. In the 2005 championship, Florida Southern College claimed its ninth championship title by defeating the University of North Florida, 12-9.
