Franklin Pierce SS Olson Named Regional Player Of Year,
Saint Anselm's Williams Tabbed As Regional Pitcher Of Year
Easton, Mass.-- Franklin Pierce College junior shortstop Garrett Olson has been named as the 2006 American Baseball Coaches of America/Rawlings Division II Northeast Region Player of the Year, while Saint Anselm College junior pitcher Ryan Williams has been tabbed as the ABCA/Rawlings Division II Northeast Regional Pitcher of the Year. The announcement came today from Patrick Boen, Head Baseball Coach at Stonehill College and the Northeast Regional chair of the ABCA Division II All-America Committee.
As winners of the regional awards, Olson and Williams are both assured of spots on the 2006 ABCA/Rawlings Division II All-America team, which will be announced later this month.
Olson, the 2006 Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year, batted .355 with 17 doubles, five triples, eight home runs and 49 RBI in leading the Ravens to a 40-10 mark, the Northeast-10 regular season title and the top seed in this weekend's NCAA Division II Northeast Regional. Olson added 18 stolen bases and posted a .610 slugging percentage as well in rapping out 71 hits to date.
Williams, the 2006 Northeast-10 Conference Pitcher of the Year, posted a 6-3 mark for the Hawks with a 1.03 earned run average in 14 appearances, as he struck out 95 batters in 105 innings of work while holding opponents to a .181 batting average on the year.
