Molloy College Lions Top Chargers 13-10

Blauvelt, NY (4/19/07) The Dominican College baseball team dropped a baseball game to host Molloy College, 13-10, this afternoon at Lions Field. With the win Molloy improves to 14-21, while the Chargers fall to 11-9.
Dominican (11-9) posted the first two runs of the game in the first inning and extended their lead to four (4-0) during the third inning after a two run homerun by Joe DiMicelli. In the bottom of the inning, freshman T.J. Greig (Staten Island, NY) drove in sophomore Patrick Walsh (Bellmore, NY) and senior Drew Adler (Merrick, NY), while junior Adrew Scavuzzo (Kings Park, NY) brought in Irwin and the Lions cut their deficit to one (4-3).
However, the Chargers placed three runs on the scoreboard and held the 7-3 advantage after four innings of play. The Lions held the Chargers scoreless for the next two innings but Dominican tallied another three runs during the seventh and grabbed the seven run edge (10-3).
After four scoreless innings, the Lions came alive in the eighth inning as they notched 10 runs. Sophomore Steven Rodriguez (Corona, NY) was hit by a pitch to start the inning and would cross the plate off a double by senior David Mercado (East Elmhurst, NY). Sophomore Patrick Miles (North Massapequa, NY) knocked in two RBI and Adler recorded an RBI to bring Molloy to within three (10-7). Irwin nailed a three run homerun to right center to tie the game at ten and Reo put the Lions on top when he smacked a three run homerun to right center.
Senior Scott Porter (Levittown, NY) led the Lions in the ninth inning as he struck out two batters and forced a batter to ground out to the shortstop to receive the save. Freshman Michael Mongiardo (Franklin Square, NY) threw four innings with four hits, three earned runs, no walks and four strikeouts to take the non-conference victory.
Shortstop Jose Made (Binghamton, NY) went 3-5 in the game with a double and two RBIs. DiMicelli went 2-4 with a home run and three RBIs.
Andrew Saccone (Warwick, NY) suffered the loss.
The Chargers are back in action tomorrow in a non-conference
game at St. Thomas Aquinas College. Game time is 1pm.
