DOMINICAN BASEBALL SWEEPS POST UNIVERSITY
Waterbury, CT (4/16/08) The Dominican College baseball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) baseball double-header from Post University this afternoon. DC won the first game 5-2 and took the night cap 11-4 to improve to 18-18 overall and 10-6 in the CACC.
Game One: DC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second as Jonathan Ryan (Troy, NY) got a one out single up the middle, advanced to second on a single by Willie Mann (Paterson, NY) and went to third on a fielder's choice. Ryan stole home to get DC on the board and an RBI single by Dan Robinson (Massapequa, NY) put the Chargers ahead 2-0.
The Eagles got on the board with a run in the third, but Dominican responded with two runs in the fourth as Mann scored on an error and a sacrifice fly by Tommy Maloney (Massapequa Park, NY) extended the Charger lead to 4-1. DC added a run in the fifth, taking advantage of another Eagle error to go up 5-1. Post got a run back in the seventh for the final 5-2 DC victory.
Charger starter Tommy Mejia (Brooklyn, NY) got the complete game victory (3-3), allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and 10 strikeouts.
Game two: The Chargers used a six run second inning, sending 10 batters to the plate to take a 6-0 lead. Robinson had a two RBI single, while Brown and Michael Munoz (Bronx, NY) also had RBI singles.
Dominican added three runs in the fourth on a double down the left field line which scored two runs and a sacrifice fly by Munoz. The Chargers added runs in the fifth and sixth on a single by Robinson and an RBI ground out by Mann.
The Eagles scored runs in the third and fifth and added two runs in the seventh for the final 11-4 DC victory.
Brian Craig (Shenandoah, PA) picked up the win (1-2) in five innings allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and four strikeouts. Andrew Distelhurst (Bardonia, NY) and Dominick Ruscitti (Chester, NY) pitched the last two innings.
