BASEBALL SPLITS WITH CHESTNUT HILL COLLEGE
Orangeburg, NY (3/21/09) The Dominican College baseball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with Chestnut Hill College as they wrapped up the season series this afternoon at Veteran's Memorial Park. DC won the first game, while the Griffins took the night cap, 6-2.

DC won the first game, while the Griffins took the night cap, 6-2.
In game one the Griffins got on the board in the fourth with three runs on two outs. Freshman Alex Latchum (Warrington, PA) had took a 3-2 pitch to left field to score two runs. CHC added a run on a delayed caught stealing that allowed Latchum to score and give the Griffins a 3-0 lead.
Dominican scored a run in the fifth as freshman Alexi Colon (Millville, NJ) got a two out double to center, went to third on a fielding error and scored a batter later on a double to left field by junior Yordis Veras (Jamaica, NY) to cut the Griffin lead to 3-1.
DC took a 4-3 lead with three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Pinch hitter Marc Mortellaro (Middletown, NY) delivered a big two out single to right field to score Armando Alvarez (Miami, FL), who had a one out hitter earlier and Colon, who had walked and give the Chargers a 4-3 lead and eventual victory.
Sophomore Tom Kahl (Bay Shore, NY) improved to 3-0 after going eight innings, allowing three runs on eight hits and 11 strikeouts. Shaun Murphy (Malville, NY) picked up his first save of the season as he came in to pitch the ninth.
In game two, the Griffins scored a run in the first as the Chargers tagged out Mike Knipe (Sellersville, PA) as he got caught in the run down which allowed Dan Etherton (Princeton, NJ) to score.
DC scored back to back runs in the second and third as freshman Alexi Colon (Millville, NJ) drew a bases loaded walk to score thirdbasemen Willie Mann (Patterson, NY). Junior Tommy Maloney (Massapequa Park, NY) scored the run in the third on a wild pitch for the 2-1 lead.
The Griffins answered back with a five run fifth inning as Etherton had a two run double to left field, followed by a two run single to center by George Kochu (Pottstown, PA). Kochu later came in on a fielder's choice as CHC took a 6-2 lead and never looked back.
Griffin reliever Bill Olmsted (Sewaren, NJ) picked up the win in three innings of relief, allowing just three hits and a strikeout. Starter Jordan McComb (Hillsdale, NY) went two innings, allowing two runs on two hits.
Charger starter Jack Crawford (Montgomery, NY) suffered the loss, allowing six runs on six hits with five strikeouts.
With the split DC is now 8-5 overall and 2-1 in the CACC, while CHC is 4-12 and 1-2 in the CACC.
