Bronxville, NY (3/24/09) The visiting Dominican College Chargers baseball squad turned back the Concordia College Clippers, 9-8 this afternoon in a non-conference game at Clipper Field.
Bronxville, NY (3/24/09) The visiting Dominican College Chargers baseball squad turned back the Concordia College Clippers, 9-8 this afternoon in a non-conference game at Clipper Field.
Dominican took a 1-0 lead with a run in the first, but only to see the Clippers score three in the third to take a 3-1 lead. DC answered back with a three run fourth and added a run in the fifth to pull ahead 5-3, but a three run bottom stanza for CC once again game them the lead 6-5.
Concordia added two runs in the sixth to go up 8-5, but a four run DC seventh inning game them a 9-8 lead and eventual victory.
Yordis Veras (Jamaica, NY), Dan Robinson (Massapequa, NY) and freshman Armando Alvarez (Miami, FL) all collected two hits a piece in the win. Veras, Robinson, sophomore Jason Berrios (Brooklyn, NY) led the way at the top of the lineup, each with 2 RBI's.
Freshman left-handed hurler Shawn Negron (Pembroke Pine, FL) picked up the win, pitching a shutout seventh and eighth inning.
With the win Dominican improves to 9-5 overall, while Concordia falls to 10-12-1 on the year.
DC is back in action tomorrow when they host Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival, Nyack College, in a double-header slated to begin at 3pm at Veteran's Memorial Park.
