BASEBALL SWEPT BY BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE
Orangeburg, NY (3/28/09) The visiting Bloomfield College Deacons wrapped up the season series with a sweep over the Dominican College Chargers this afternoon at Veteran's Memorial Park. BC took the first game, 7-6 and won the second game, 4-2.

BC opened up game one with a three run first inning and added two more in the third to take a 5-0 lead, before the Chargers platted four runners in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 5-4. Junior first basemen Tommy Maloney (Massapequa Park, NY) had an RBI double to center and junior Willie Mann (Patterson, NY) hit a big two-out double to left center to score three runs.
DC took a 6-5 lead with two runs in the fifth on RBI singles by freshman Xavier Bonilla (Bronx, NY) and catcher Robert Iglesias (Mays Landing, NJ). The Deacons rallied for a run in the seventh and scored the go ahead run on an RBI groundout in the ninth to take the first game 7-6.
Charger starter Jack Crawford (Montgomery, NY) went eight innings in the no-decision, allowing six runs (two earned) on nine hits and four strikeouts. Reliever Dominick Ruscitti (Chester, NY) suffered the loss (0-1) after allowing the run in the ninth.
In game two, the Deacons once again went ahead early with two runs in the second inning. The Chargers put two runs across in the third as Maloney reached on a fielder's choice to score a run and outfielder Alexi Colon (Millville, NJ) had a sacrifice fly to center field to score the other run.
Bloomfield had an RBI double in the fourth and fifth innings as they went on to the 4-2 victory.
DC starter Shaun Murphy (Malville, NY) took the loss (1-1) after going five innings and allowing four runs on six hits and five strikeouts. Freshman Victor Cosme (Brooklyn, NY) pitched the last two innings, allowing one hit and two strikeouts.
With the losses Dominican falls to 11-8 overall and 4-4 in the CACC, while Bloomfield improves to 5-15 overall and 2-3 in the CACC.
