CHARGERS BASEBALL RALLY TO DEFEAT WILMINGTON UNIVERSITY
Orangeburg, NY (4/5/09) The Dominican College baseball team rallied from a 7-4 deficit to defeat the visiting Wilmington University Wildcats, 8-7 this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) baseball action.

The Chargers got on the board in the first as sophomore outfielder Jason Berrios (Brooklyn, NY) led off the inning with a single up the middle and later game in to score on the RBI double-play ground out by designated hitter Michael Munoz (Bronx, NY). The 'Cats tied the game in the second on an home run over the right field fence by designated hitter Matt Umba (Woodbury, NJ).
WU took a 3-1 lead in the fifth on the two run two-out blast by junior shortstop JT Gregory (Woodbridge, VA). In the bottom stanza Munoz struck again with a two-out three-run homer over the right field fence as DC regained a 4-3 advantage.
The Wildcats roared back with a four-run seventh inning as Gregory got things going with his second home run of the day, once again over the center field fence. A DC fielding error allowed Jordan Oncay (Wilmington, DE) to score after receiving a free pass and a two-run single up the middle by Umba put WU up 7-4.
Dominican charged back in the bottom of the seventh as Berrios led off the inning with a single down the right field line and later came in to score on a passed ball. Munoz reached on a 'Cat error to bring in second basemen Armando Alvarez (Miami, FL) and a single to right field by Willie Mann (Patterson, NY) brought in Tommy Maloney (Massapequa Park, NY). A double-play ground-out by freshman Xavier Bonilla (Bronx, NY) allowed Munoz to score and give the Chargers the 8-7 and evenutal victory.
Dominick Ruscitti (Chester, NY) picked up the win in 1 2/3 innings of relief, allowing one run on run hit and three strikeouts. Starter Brian Craig (Shenandoah, PA) went six innings, allowing three runs on five hits and seven strikeouts in the no-decision. Freshman right-handed hurler Justin Moore (Wantagh, NY) picked up his ninth save of the season after pitching the ninth and allowing just one hit and one strikeout.
WU reliever Jerry McLaughlin (Bear, DE) suffered the loss after pitching giving up the go-ahead run. Starter Mike Godwin (Hockessin, DE) went 4 2/3 innings in the no-decision, allowing four runs on five hits.
DC improves to 16-9 overall and 7-5 in the conference with the victory, while WU falls to 15-14 overall and 6-4 in the CACC.
