#1 DOMINICAN BASEBALL RALLYS TO DEFEAT ST. THOMAS AQUINAS COLLEGE
Orangeburg, NY (4/16/09) The Dominican College baseball team, ranked #1 in the East Region, rallied from a 3-0 deficit to defeat non-conference opponent, St. Thomas Aquinas College, 8-7 this afternoon at Veteran's Memorial Field.

The Spartans started things off with a three run first inning. Joe Antenucci (Emerson, NJ) and Nick Barbalato (Mahopac, NY) led off the inning wiith back to back walks and came in to score on the RBI double to left field by sophomore Matt Smith (Paramus, NJ). He came in to score on the RBI single to left by second basemen Kevin Connors (West Babylon, NY) to take a 3-0 lead.
Dominican got a run back in the second as junior catcher Marc Mortellaro (Middletown, NY) got a one out double to right field and moved to third on the infield single by freshman Xavier Bonilla (Bronx, NY). Bonilla stole second which allowed Mortellaro to score on the throw and cut the lead to 3-1.
St. Thomas Aquinas rebuilt a two run advantage in the third as Smith led off the inning with his second walk and later scored on the RBI groundout by Dan McDermott (Levittown, NY).
The Chargers scored a run in the bottom stanza as first basemen Tommy Maloney (Massapequa Park, NY) drew a one out walk, moved to second on a passed ball and third on a wild pitch. He came in to score on the RBI single to left by junior Willie Mann (Patterson, NY) to make the score 4-2.
DC tied the game with two runs in the fourth as Mortellaro led off the inning with a single and came in on the RBI single to right by Alexi Colon (Millville, NJ). Yordis Veras (Jamaica, NY) walked and later scored on a balk to tie the game at 4-4.
Dominican took a 6-4 lead in the fifth as designated hitter Michael Munoz (Bronx, NY) was hit to lead off the inning and Mann followed with a single to center. Bonilla delivered a two-out two run single through the left side to give DC their first lead of the game.
DC added a run in the sixth as Maloney scored ona passed ball to give the team a 7-4 lead. In the top of the seventh the Spartans put three runs on the board to tie the game at 7-7. In the bottom stanza Maloney delivered an RBI single up the middle for the game winning run as DC held on to the 8-7 victory.
Charger Tom Nagy (Greenville, NY) picked up the win (3-0) in two innings of relief. Freshman Justin Moore (Wantagh, NY) knotched his 11th save of the season, pitching a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
Reliever Chris Reyes (New York, NY) took the loss for the Spartans.
With the win Dominican improves to 22-9 overall, while St. Thomas Aquinas falls to 9-19.
