Caldwell Cougars Defeat Dominican Chargers, 86-78
Caldwell Coach Mark Corino earns his 400th career victory
Blauvelt, NY (1/12/06)The Caldwell College men's basketball team defeated the Dominican College men's basketball team, 86-78 this evening in men's CACC hoops action at the Hennessy Center.
The Cougars jumped out to an early 10 point lead in the first half and never looked back en route to a 45-31 lead at the half. Caldwell shot 53.8% in the first half, while Dominican shot 42.3%. Jean Georges (Vauxhal, NJ) netted 15 of his 29 points in the first stanza.
Besides Georges, two other Cougars reached double figures. Manny Perez (Egg Harbor, NJ) scored 21 points and senior Mark Kelly (Oakhurst, NJ) chipped in 12 points, five rebounds and four assists in the win. Caldwell shot 48.9% for the game from the floor and went 33-39 (84.6%) from the free throw line.
The Chargers also had three players in double figures, led by junior Prince Jackson (Schenectady, NY) with 20 points and six rebounds. Senior forward Tahiem Stewart (Harlem, NY) netted 18 points, six rebounds, one block and two steals. Junior Chaz Holloway (Caldwell, NJ) contributed 10 points and two steals, while Charles Matthews (Brooklyn, NY) put in a solid effort with nine points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals.
With the win Caldwell improves to 8-8 overall and 4-4 in the CACC, while Dominican falls to 3-9 overall and 2-5 in the CACC. Caldwell's victory marks the 400th career win for Head Coach Mark Corino.
Dominican will be back in action on Tuesday, January 17th as they travel to Goldey-Beacom College in CACC hoops action. Game time is slated for 8pm in Delaware.
