Bloomfield College Hangs On To Beat Dominican College, 88-84

Blauvelt, NY (1/19/06)The Dominican College men's basketball team overcame a seventeen point deficit, but couldn't pull out a win against Bloomfield College this evening at the Hennessy Center.

Trailing by seventeen, 53-70, with 8:45 remaining in the game, Dominican rallied to tie the game at 76-76 as Prince Jackson (Schenectady, NY) netted a lay up. DC would take the lead as Richard Fegins (Elizabeth, NJ) stole the ball and hit a lay up, putting the Chargers up 78-76. The Deacons hit the go ahead foul shot with :58 seconds remaining as Shelton Powell (Philadelphia, PA) converted one of two free throws, putting the Deacons up 83-82, en route to the final 88-84 score.

The Deacons had six players in double figures, led by Daniel Terrell (Somerdale, NJ) with 21 points. Kareem Boswell (Trenton, NJ), Andre Dabney (Plainfield, NJ) and Powell all scored 15 points, while Tony Wilson (Linden, NJ) netted 12 points. Rob Lawrence (Plainfield, NJ) added 10 points in the win.

The Chargers had three players in double figures, led by Jackson with 21 points and seven rebounds. Chaz Holloway (Caldwell, NJ) added 17 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two blocks, while senior Tahiem Stewart (Harlem, NY) contributed 15 points, seven rebounds and two assists in the loss.

With the win, the Deacons improve to 9-6 overall and 8-2 in the CACC, while the Chargers fall to 3-11 overall and 2-7 in the CACC.

Dominican will be back in action on Saturday, January 21st as they travel to New Jersey Institute of Technology in CACC hoops action. Game time is slated for 3pm.
