The Wilmington College Wildcats got a hard fought victory over the Dominican College Chargers, 92-88 this afternoon in men’s CACC basketball action at the Hennessy Center.
In a game that was tied sixteen times and neither team led by more than eight points, it was a see saw battle as both teams fought hard to score points. WC took a one point lead into the half, 38-37. Taurean Temple (Newark, DE) led all scorers in the half, netting 15 points, shooting 2-3 from three point land. The Chargers were led by senior Tahiem Stewart (Harlem, NY) with 11 points, eight of which were dunks.
The second half once again saw both teams battle back and forth
with the lead. The Wildcats led by five with 15:31 remaining,
but DC’s Chaz Holloway (Caldwell, NJ) tied
the game at 53-53 with a three point basket. Dominican went
up by three at 63-60 with 9:58 left on a three pointer from
sophomore Shelton Gibbs (Jersey City,
NJ). Wilmington went up for good with 3:08 left as
Temple hit a lay up, putting the Wildcats up 80-77
, en route to the final 92-88 score.
Dominican out rebounded the Wildcats, 32-31, but WC had the edge on
the floor, shooting 59.6% to DC’s
55.9%.
The Chargers had three players in double-figures, led by junior
Prince Jackson
(Schenectady, NY) with 22 points and
three assists. Stewart finished with 19
points (four dunks) and a game leading eight rebounds.
Holloway had 14 points in the loss. Freshman
Damien Davis (Windsor, CT) scored
eight points and four assists.
The Wildcats were led by Temple with a game
leading 44 points. Bradford Morris
(Frankford, DE) and Gary Williams
(Manassas, VA) each had 11 points in the win, while
Morris had four assists.
With the win, the Wildcats improve to 7-19 overall and 7-14 in the
CACC, while the Dominican falls to 11-16 overall and 10-12
CACC.
Before the game, Dominican College recognized seniors James
Gray, Juan Martinez, Charles Matthews, Tahiem Stewart and
Paul Tuomey who played in their final home game at
the Hennessy Center.
Dominican will be back in action on Tuesday, February
28th when they play in the first round of the CACC
Tournament. Game time is 7:30 and the place is TBA.
