#7 Dominican Chargers Advance to CACC Tournament Final, 73-71
Philadelphia, PA (3/3/06) For the second time this week junior Prince Jackson (Schenectady, NY) came through in the clutch as he hit the game winning jumper as time expired to lift the #7 Dominican College Chargers to victory over the #3 Holy Family University Tigers, 73-71 this evening to advance to the finals of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament.

week junior Prince Jackson (Schenectady, NY) came through in the
clutch as he hit the game winning jumper as time expired to lift
the #7 Dominican College Chargers to victory over the #3 Holy
Family University Tigers, 73-71 this evening to advance to the
finals of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament.
Holy Family jumped out to a 28-17 lead with 7:46 remaining as Andrew Presner (Southampton, PA) hit a jump shot. The lead was extended to 14 points as Dan Welch (Philadelphia, PA) drove to the hoop for a lay up with three minutes remaining in the half. Jackson had a three point play towards the end of the half, pulling the Chargers within nine at 28-37. Holy Family’s Ryan Haigh (Philadelphia, PA) last second jumper gave the Tigers a 41-28 lead going into the half.
Dominican shot just 33.3% in the half, while Holy Family shot 53.6%, going a perfect 3-3 from behind the three point arc.
The Chargers regrouped in the second half, as they cut the lead to three with 7:36 left after Jackson converted two free throws. Junior Chaz Holloway (Caldwell, NJ) hit a big three point basket to tie the game at 60-60 with 6:41 left. After a Charger foul, the Tigers hit one of two free throws to retake the lead, 61-60. DC answered right back as senior Tahiem Stewart (Harlem, NY) scored a lay up, giving DC their first lead of the game at 62-61. Dominican went up by four with 3:16 left as Holloway hit another big three to make the score 69-65. Holy Family tied the game as Presner hit a three point basket to make the score 69-69 with 1:34 left.
With 0:44 left, Stewart converted one of two free throws, giving the Chargers a 70-69 lead. He then went back to the line and did the same thing to give the Chargers a 71-69 lead with 0:29 left in the game. Haigh answered back with the game tying lay up with 0:11 left to make the score 71-71, but after a DC time out, Jackson received the inbound pass and hit the game winning jumper as time expired on the clock.
Holy Family had three players in double figures, led by Haigh with 25 points and four assists, shooting 3-4 from the three point line. Ryan Lancaster (Egg Harbor, NJ) added 16 points, while Dan Welch (Philadelphia, PA) netted 14 points and a game leading eight rebounds in the loss.
The Chargers had two players in double-figures, led by Jackson with 22 points and six rebounds. Stewart finished with 18 points and a team leading seven rebounds. Holloway netted eight points, while sophomore Shelton Gibbs (Jersey City, NJ) had a team leading three assists in the win.
With the win, Dominican improves their record to 13-16 on the year, while Holy Family University wraps up their season at 17-14.
Dominican will play the winner of the #1 Bloomfield College/#4 Nyack College in the finals of the CACC Tournament tomorrow at 7pm in Philadelphia, PA.
