Queens, Adelphi Win in DC Tip-Off Tournament
Blauvelt, NY (11/18/05)Queens College (1-1) and Adelphi University (1-1)each won their games in the Dominican College Tip-Off Tournament held at the Hennessy Center this evening.
In game one, Queens dominated Nyack College(0-1), 90-61. Junior Bradd Wierzbicki (Maspeth, NY) led all scorers with 27 points, while senior forward Shaun Bertin (Brooklyn, NY) netted 16 points and Clyde Chapman (Brooklyn, NY) added 13 points in the win.
For Nyack, John Van Dunk (Hillburn, NY) led the team with 14 points while Brian Roberts (Hartford, CT) and Adam Bauman (Sarver, PA) contributed 10 points a piece.
The knights shot 57 percent from the floor (36-63), while the Warriors shot 33 percent, going 22-65.
In game two, #22 Adelphi University came away with a 72-63 victory, after going on a 12-0 scoring run to start the game. Kimani Blaize (Brooklyn, NY) led the panthers with 16 points, while junior Mike Mosby (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY) added 15 points and nine rebounds and Aaron Cummings (Bay Shore, NY) chipped in 12 points, respectively.
Dominican rallied in the second half down, 42-57, to bring them within four at 63-67, with under a minute remaining. Three Chargers were in double digits as junior Prince Jackson (Schnectady, NY) led all scorers with 18 points. Seniors James Gray (Cortland Manor, NY) had 11 points and Paul Tuomey (Queens, NY) netted 10 points in the loss.
Tomorrow night at the Hennessy Center #22 Adelphi University will take on Nyack College at 5:30 pm, while Queens College will match up against Dominican College at 7:30 pm.
