Queens College squeaks by Dominican College, 77-76
22 Adelphi and Queens Goes Undefeated in DC Tip-Off Tournament
Blauvelt, NY (11/19/05)#22 Adelphi University and Queens College improved to 2-1 while, Nyack College and Dominican College fall to 0-2 on the final night of the Dominican College Tip-Off Tournament.
In game one, #22 Adelphi went on a 9-0 run to start the game and never looked back, en route to a 76-68 victory. Senior Aaron Cummings (Plainview, NY) led all scorers with 20 points and six assists. Junior Kimani Blaize (Brooklyn, NY) netted 17 points, while Sean Corrigan (Hicksville, NY) added 11 points, respectively.
For the Warriors, sophomore John Van Dunk (Hillburn, NY) had the only double-double of the game, netting 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Guards Brian Roberts (Hartford, CT) and Ronald Epps (Poughkeepsie, NY) had 11 points a piece in the loss.
The Panthers shot a respectively 50% from the floor and 76% from the free-throw line, while the Warriors shot 39.1% from the floor and 68.3% percent from the line.
The second game was decided in the final second of the game, as Clyde Chapman(Brooklyn, NY) hit a game winning free throw as Queens College pulled out a 77-76 victory. Four knights scored in double figures as Bradd Wierzbicki (Maspeth, NY) led all scorers with 20 points. Chapman netted 15 points, Lance Hazel had 13 points and Hassan Washington (White Plains, NY) scored 11 points.
The Chargers also had four players in double figures. Junior Prince Jackson (Schnectady, NY) led the team with 19 points and senior Tahiem Stewart (Harlem, NY) chipped in 15 points. Senior James Gray (Cortland Manor, NY) scored 12 points, while Paul Tuomey (Queens, NY) contributed 10 points in the loss.
Both team shot well from the floor as QC shot 45% and DC shot 53.6%. Queens had the edge from the free throw line shooting 64.3% to Dominican's 61.1%.
