Queens Goes Undefeated at Jim Clancy Memorial Tournament
Blauvelt, NY (1/4/07) The Knights of Queens College edged the Dominican College Chargers, 59-54 to go undefeated at the Jim Clancy Memorial Tournament held at the Hennessy Center at Dominican College this evening. The Chargers and the Flyers of Mercy College both went 1-1, while the Bloomfield College Deacons went 0-2 in tournament play.

Blauvelt, NY (1/4/07) The Knights of Queens College edged the Dominican College Chargers, 59-54 to go undefeated at the Jim Clancy Memorial Tournament held at the Hennessy Center at Dominican College this evening. The Chargers and the Flyers of Mercy College both went 1-1, while the Bloomfield College Deacons went 0-2 in tournament play.
Dominican held a 32-28 lead at the half behind senior Prince Jackson's (Schenectady, NY) 12 points. Lance Hazel (Jamaica, NY) led the Knights with 10 points at the half. The Chargers shot 48.1% (13-27) from the floor to Queens 44.4% (12-27).
Queens quickly erased the deficit in the second half, going on a 5-0 run to take a 37-32 lead with 17:22 to go. DC tied the game for the seventh time at 51-51 with 4:58 remaining on a jumper by junior Keynon Jackson (Harlem, NY). QC regained the lead with 3:11 left on a three point bucket by senior Bradd Wierzbicki (Maspeth, NY) and increased the lead to 56-51 on a dunk by Marvin Lawrence (Uniondale, NY). The Chargers cut the lead to two but that would be as close as it would get as Queens got the 59-54 win.
The Chargers were led by Prince Jackson with 16 points, while Keynon Jackson added 12 points in the loss. Sophomore Damien Davis (Windsor, CT) contributed eight points.
The Knights were led by Hazel with 17 points and six rebounds. Wierzbicki finished with 16 points, while Hassan Washington (White Plains, NY) netted eight points and a game leading eight rebounds.
With the win, the Knights improve to 6-4, while the Chargers fall to 5-6.
In the first game of the night, the Mercy College Flyers handed the Deacons from Bloomfield College their second straight loss, 87-80 as five players reached double figures for the Flyers led by junior Paul Flowers (New York, NY) with 19 points (15-15 from the free throw line), nine rebounds, three assists and two steals. Devon Mirjah (Bronx, NY) netted 17 points and eight rebounds, while junior Keiron Guy (Brooklyn, NY) added 16 points in the victory. Senior Dominick Cuzzi (Bronx, NY) had the team's only double-double with 14 points and 10 boards and Vince Jordan (Spring Valley, NY) scored 13 points and five assists.
The Deacons also had five players in double figures as sophomore Omari Knox (Brooklyn, NY) led the team with 19 points and four assists. Senior Andre Dabney (Plainfield, NJ) netted 18 points and four assists, while freshman Chris Sampson (Philadelphia, PA) had a solid performance, netting 16 points and 12 rebounds. Anthony Separovich (Sydney, Australia) followed with 13 points and seven rebounds, while senior guard Tony Wilson (Linden. NJ) contributed 10 points and three assists in the loss.
With the win, Mercy improved to 2-8 on the year, while Bloomfield dropped to 3-8.
Dominican is back in action on Tuesday, January 9, when they travel to the University of Sciences in Philadelphia in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action at 8pm.
