Blauvelt, NY (2/10/07) The Dominican College Chargers charged past visiting University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, 75-68 this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men’s action on Coach Baxter Court.
The Devils took a 11-7 lead early in the first period, but the Chargers bounced back to take the lead, 15-13 with 9:32 to go on a jumper by sophomore Will Carty (Bronx, NY). DC built up a nine point lead late in the first half, but USP cut the lead to six on a lay up by senior William Kurtz (Shamong, NJ) with 0:54 seconds to go in the half.
Dominican opened up the second half with a 11-3 run to take a 48-35 lead with just over 13 minutes left in the game. The Devils cut the lead to 71-64 with 0:28 seconds left in the game on a lay up by senior Eric Cangelosi (Haddon Heights, NJ) but that would be as close as they would get as Dominican came away with the 75-68 victory.
Kurtz and Howard Lanier
(Sicklerville, NJ) each had 14 points for the Devils in
the loss. Collin Harrington (Sewell,
NJ) had the team’s only double-double with 12 points
and 10 rebounds. Caneglosi
finished with 11 points.
The Chargers had four players in double figures, led by junior
Ron Wyatt (Washingtonville, NJ) with 22 points and
10 rebounds. Carty netted 21
points, shooting 9-11 from the floor in the win, while senior
Prince Jackson (Schenectady, NY) had the other
double-double, netting 13 points and a game leading 11
rebounds. Junior Shelton
Gibbs (Jersey City, NJ) added 10 points in the
win.
With the win, the Chargers improve to 11-12 overall and 9-8 in the
CACC, while the Devils fall to 10-13 overall and 8-10 in the
CACC.
Dominican is back in action on Monday when they host Southern
Connecticut State University in a non-conference
game. Game time is slated for 7pm.
