Blauvelt, NY(2/12/07) The Dominican College Chargers rallied in the second half to defeat Southern Connecticut State University, 84-69 this evening in a non-conference men’s basketball game on Coach Baxter Court.
The first half
consisted of eight ties but Southern Connecticut built up a five
point lead late with 1:40 to go in the period. DC cut
it to two points on a three point bucket by junior
Shelton Gibbs (Jersey City, NJ),
but a lay up by Danny Miller (Brooklyn, NY) with
ten seconds left put the Owls up 45-41 at the break.
The Chargers
took the lead with 7:40 left in the second half as senior
Prince Jackson (Schenectady, NY) hit one of two
foul shots, giving DC a 59-58 lead. The lead would
extend to seven points with four minutes left and built up to a 15
point lead as shooter Will Carty (Bronx, NY) hit a
three point shot with 0:15 seconds left in the game.
The Owls were
led by Tyrese Sullivan (New Haven, CT) with 13
points and three steals. Devon Sullivan
(Jamaica, NY) and Kevin Diffley (Queens,
NY) each had 10 points and a combined 11 rebounds in the
loss.
The Chargers
were led by Carty with 25 points, five rebounds
and two steals. Jackson finished with
23 points and seven rebounds, while center Ron Wyatt
(Washingtonville, NY) had the game’s only
double-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds and three
blocks. Point guard Kevin Buono
(Suffern, NY) had a game leading nine assists in the
win.
With the win, the Chargers improve to 12-12 overall, while the Owls
fall to 7-17 overall.
Dominican is back in action on Saturday when they travel to Holy Family University in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men’s action. Game time is slated for 3pm.
