Blauvelt, NY (11/30/06) The Dominican Chargers won a big Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory over rival Nyack College, 79-67 this evening on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
Nyack started off with the game's first bucket as both teams volleyed back and forth with lead until DC took the lead, 18-16, on a lay up by Will Carty (Bronx, NY) with 9:23 left in the first half. The Chargers went on to build a 39-27 lead at half time off a jumper by Shelton Gibbs (Jersey City, NJ). Carty, junior Ron Wyatt (Washingtonville, NY) and senior Prince Jackson (Schenectady, NY) all had 10 points in the half. The Warriors were led by Brian Roberts (Hartford, CT) with 11 points and Sheanan Martinez (Haverstraw, NY) netting 10 points.
The second half started with basket by DC to take a 14 point
lead, but the Warriors battled back to cut the lead to two with
6:45 left in the game on a lay up by Josh Tate
(Springfield, MA). The Chargers then went on to an 11-0
run to seal the game on a big three point bucket by
Carty.
The Chargers had three players in double figures, led by Carty with a career high 25 points. Jackson finished with 17 points and seven rebounds, while Wyatt had the game's only double-double with 16 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks. Junior Keynon Jackson (Manhattan, NY) finished with seven points in the win.
The Warriors also had three players in double digits, led by Roberts with 20 points and eight rebounds. Martinez finished with 15 points and six boards, while John VanDunk (Hillburn, NY) added 14 points and seven rebounds in the loss.
The Chargers are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Goldey-Beacom College in CACC action. Game time is 3pm in Delaware.
