New Castle, DE (12//9/06) The Wilmington College Wildcats were defeated by the visiting Chargers of Dominican College, 85-77 in CACC men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at the Pratt Center.
In what was a competitive first half that saw neither team lead by more than five points, Dominican entered halftime with a 35-32 lead. The Chargers opened the second half with an 8-2 run, but the Wildcats followed with a quick spurt of their own, cutting the deficit to just two points five minutes in. Dominican gradually built the lead back to as many as 12, and sealed the game with some solid foul shooting as time winded down.
The Wildcats were led by junior guard Maurice Furrowh's 22 points. Freshman guard Chapmen Canady added 14 points, while Antonio Sherrod, Tim Sowden, and Blake Rubenstein each chipped in with nine points. Sowden recorded eight rebounds while Sherrod added eight boards for the home team.
Dominican was led by Ron Wyatt (Washingtonville, NY), who posted 22 points, seven rebounds, and three steals. Zerimar Ramierz (Pawtucket, RI) chipped in with 12 points and eight boards, while Chaz Holloway (Caldwell, NJ) had 11 points and eight rebounds. Prince Jackson (Schenectady, NY) and Shelton Gibbs (Jersey City, NJ) each recorded 10 points, and Jackson also pulled down eight rebounds for the Chargers.
Wilmington was out-rebounded by the Chargers, by a 48-33 margin. Dominican shot just over 49 percent from the floor for the game, compared to just over 40 percent for the Wildcats.
Following the game, Wilmington dropped to 0-3 in the CACC and 0-8 on the season, while Dominican improved to 4-1 in the conference and 4-3 overall.
