Dominican, Molloy Win On Night Two of DC Tip-Off Tournament
Chargers open season 2-0
Blauvelt, NY (11/17/07) Molloy College and host Dominican College won their second games in the 2007 DC Tip-Off Tournament held on Coach Baxter Court this evening. Molloy College defeated Nyack College, 74-70 in game one, while Dominican knocked off Adelphi University, 73-65.
In game one, the Warriors jumped out to a 25-14 lead with 9:42 in the half, but the Lions roared back to take the lead, 33-32 with 1:42 remaining on a lay up by Vincent Falzone (Middle Village, NY). Nyack came back to the tie the game with 1:19 remaining but Molloy’s Girard Fitts (Uniondale, NY) ended the half with a dunk to give Molloy a 35-33 lead.
The second half mirrored the first as both teams played tough as the lead changed hands four times in the final five minutes as Molloy held on for the 74-70 victory.
Nyack had three players in double figures as Adam Bauman (Sarver, PA) and Mickell Vickers (Babylon, NY) each had 14 points in the loss, with Vickers adding seven rebounds. John Van Dunk (Hillburn, NY) had 12 points, while Brian Roberts (Hartford, CT) had a team leading nine rebounds.
Molloy had four players in double figures led by Glenn Martin (Brooklyn, NY) with 21 points and six rebounds. Kyle Dongo (Bronx, NY) added 15 points, while Fitts ended with 14 points. Mark Pierre (St. Georges, Grenada) netted 11 points, while Falzone had a game high 10 rebounds.
In game two, Dominican jumped out to 14-4 lead early in the first half, but Adelphi fought back to tie the game at 21-21 with 4:23 remaining as Richard Byrd (Central Islip, NY) hit a jumper. Dominican then went on a 6-2 run to close the first half with a 33-29 lead.
In the second half, the Panthers took a four point lead, 44-40, with 15:07 left in the game as Alvin Vivican III (Brentwood, NY) scored a three point bucket. However that would be the only lead AU would have in the half as junior Dato Sakvarelidze (Tbilisi, GA) hit a big three point shot to give the Chargers a 48-45 lead en route to the 73-65 victory.
Adelphi was led by Byrd with 17 points and seven rebounds. Vivican and David Akinyooye (Elmont, NY) each finished with 11 points.
The Chargers were led by junior Brandon Brock (Newburgh, NY) who led all scorers with 19 points. Junior Will Carty (Bronx, NY) had a solid 13 point and five rebound performance, while freshman Kris Knez (Astoria, NY) netted 10 points and six rebounds in the win.
With the wins Dominican improves to 2-0, while Molloy improves to 1-1 on the year. Adelphi University falls to 1-1 overall, while Nyack falls to 0-2 on the season.

back in action on Tuesday, November 20th when they take
on the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras at 7:30 pm on Coach
Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
