2009-2010 Dominican College Men’s Basketball Summary
The Dominican College men’s basketball team finished their season with an overall record of 14-16 and a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) record of 10-8.
The Chargers finished the regular season in third place in the CACC North Division and earned the North Division Third Seed in the CACC Tournament. In the tournament, Dominican faced off against the second seed and eventual CACC Tournament Champions, Felician College in a quarter-final match up where the Golden Falcons came away with the 69-58 victory.
Leading the team this year in scoring was freshman point guard, Leon Porter. Porter averaged 14.7 points per game and had a team leading 162 assists and 42 steals. He led the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) in assists, finished fourth in scoring, sixth in free throw percentage (.790) and three point field goals made (61), 12th in steals, 15th in three point field goal percentage (.361) and fifth in assist:turnover ratio (1.46). He was named the CACC Rookie of the Year, to the All-CACC Third Team and to the All-Met Second Team. Porter also earned two CACC Rookie of the Week honors this season.
Junior center Almin Hodzic finished second on the team and was in the top thirty in the CACC in scoring (10.8 ppg), eighth and led the team in rebounding (8.6 rpg), seventh in field goal percentage (.545) and third in the CACC in blocks (58). For his efforts he received All-CACC Honorable Mention honors this season.
The Chargers lose three players to graduation this season (Brendan McManus, Zach Huston, and Marquis Reddick). Head Coach Joe Clinton is confident with the strong nucleus of players returning for the 2010-2011 season and the addition of a very talented recruiting class, the team will build on this season’s successes and will be one of the top teams in the CACC next year.
