Dominican Names Ballou Men’s Lacrosse Coach

Blauvelt, NY (08/10/05) Dominican College Athletic Director, Joe Clinton, has announced the hiring of Nick Ballou as the new head men’s lacrosse coach.

We are very excited to have Nick as our men’s lacrosse coach. He helped build a very successful program at the State University of New York at Geneseo,” Clinton said. “He is young and energetic and will be instrumental in bringing our men’s lacrosse team to the next level.”

Ballou, a native of Rochester, NY, is a graduate of the State University at Geneseo where he spent four years as a member of the men’s lacrosse team. He was the team captain in his junior and senior seasons and started in every collegiate game of his career. Ballou was a three-time All SUNYAC selection and led a defense that was ranked 13th in the nation in 2002. He also helped lead Geneseo to their first Division III top twenty ranking for the first time in program history.

After graduation, Ballou returned to his alma mater as an assistant coach. In his first year, the team won the both the SUNYAC and ECAC Championships and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2004.

“I am very excited about being the men’ lacrosse coach,” Ballou said. “I am anxious to get started and continue to build the program at Dominican College.”

Ballou will take over the reigns for retiring coach, Dale Abeling. Last season, Abeling guided the Chargers to a 5-7 record, which was the most wins in program history.
