MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Dominican College men's soccer team got first-half goals from Kyle Clancy (Walden, NY) and Ryan Clancy (Walden, NY) and held on for a 2-1 victory over Saint Anselm College today at Dr. George J. Larkin Field on the campus of Southern New Hampshire University. It marked the 2005 season-opener for both teams.

The game remained scoreless until late in the first half when the Clancy brothers struck for goals just two minutes apart. Kyle, a senior, opened the scoring at 30:29 when he took a lead pass from Ryan, a sophomore, and sent a low shot past Saint Anselm netminder Tim Galligan (Farmington, MA) into the far corner from 20 yards out. Ryan gave the Chargers a 2-0 lead at 32:31 when his diving header off a cross from senior Brent Gaylord (Phoenix, AZ) got past Galligan. Sophomore Michael Maffei (Stony Point, NY) also assisted on the goal.

The Hawks cut the lead in half just 10 minutes into the second half on a pretty goal. Senior Jesse Milling (Scarborough, ME) sent a lead pass into the box to classmate Seth Ebbling (Northbridge, MA), who tapped a pass to teammate Tim Hubbard (Marshfield, MA) just yards away. Hubbard one-timed a shot past Dominican goaltender Rob Kelly (Kearny, NJ) from 15 yards out.

Dominican limited the Hawks to just one shot the rest of the way to secure the win. Dominican posted a 10-4 edge in shots in the second half and finished with a 15-7 advantage in shots overall.

Kelly went the distance in net for Dominican and made three saves. Galligan finished with five saves for the Hawks.

Both teams return to action Saturday (8/27) at Melucci Field on the Saint Anselm campus. Dominican will face Southern New Hampshire University at 1 p.m., while Saint Anselm will face Nyack College at 4 p.m.
