Owls Play to 2-2 Tie with Dominican
8/25/05 -- In a game that featured six
yellow cards and 42 fouls, Southern Connecticut State was able to
escape with a 2-2 tie with Dominican College thanks to a last
second goal by sophomore Igor Santos (Centerville, Mass.) Saturday
at Jess Dow Field.
Santos scored his first goal of the season off an incredible feed
from freshman Michael DiBartolomeo (Wallingford, Conn.) with 16
seconds remaining to send the game into extra time.
Southern took the lead in the 35th minute of the game when
DiBartolomeo scored his first goal of the season off an assist from
freshman Sean O’Brien (Guilford, Conn.). Dominican would
later tie the game in the 80th minute when Jhonny
Artega put the ball past Southern goal keeper Brendan
Lawless (Orleans, Mass.). Less than seven minutes later Dominican
would take the lead when Diego Miranda scored a
questionable goal inside the box that looked as if it could be
called back for a hand ball.
The game would remained tied through two 10 minute overtime
periods. Lawless finished the game with five saves while Dominican
keeper Robert Kelly finished with four.
Southern will be in action again Sunday afternoon as they take on
Bridgeport at Jess Dow Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00
p.m.
