Schenectady - Dominican College scored two goals in a span of 54 seconds and stymied The College of Saint Rose offense en route to a 2-0 non-conference victory in a match played at Union College Tuesday afternoon.
Junior forward Ryan Clancy (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) served a corner kick into the far side of the goalie box that freshman defender Dan Kelly (Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa) headed to the upper left corner of the net for the first tally of the contest at the 33:30 mark.
On the ensuing kickoff, the Chargers (5-2-1) took possession off a turnover from the Golden Knights defense that left Clancy and teammate James Hamilton (Renfrewshire, Scotland/Castlehead) with a two-on-one opportunity. Hamilton worked a give-and-go, collecting the pass from Clancy and ripping a shot past the diving hands of junior keeper Peter Cappiello (Lakeland, NY/Lakeland) to take a 2-0 advantage that stood for the remainder of the game.
Dominican held a 15-2 edge over Saint Rose in shots and a 6-0 margin in corner kicks in spite of the wet conditions.
Cappiello recorded eight saves for the Golden Knights in 90 minutes of action, while senior keeper Robert Kelly (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) did not need to make a save for the Chargers.
Saint Rose will continue its Northeast-10 Conference regular season when the Golden Knights (1-7) travel to Bentley for a 2:00 pm start on Saturday. Dominican plays host to Bryant for a non-conference match-up at 3:30 pm Thursday.
