Rutherford, NJ (10/26/06) The top seeded Dominican College men's soccer team advanced to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament Championship game after posting a 3-2 victory over #4 Caldwell College this afternoon at Tryon Field in Rutherford, NJ.
Dominican attacked early, netting a goal at 6:28 as freshman James Hamilton (Renfreshire, Scotland) put a shot past a diving Cougar keeper off the pass by midfielder Diego Barahona (Quito, Ecuador).
The Chargers went up 2-0 as junior captain Ryan Clancy (Pine Bush, NY) scored a goal at 59:11 off the double assist by keeper Robert Kelly (Kearny, NJ) and Jhonny Arteaga (Cali, Colombia).
DC took a commanding 3-0 lead as Arteaga headed a ball into the net off the corner kick by Clancy at 63:20.
Caldwell fought back as Nicholas Harriott scored an unassisted goal in the 79th minute of play to get the Cougars on the board down 3-1.
CC pulled within a goal in the 88th minute when Justin Miller scored a goal off a corner kick to make the score 3-2.
Charger keeper Kelly had three saves in the win, while Cougar John Plaugic had two saves. Caldwell out shot the Chargers 12-9 and had the edge in corner kicks 6-2.
With the win the Chargers improve to 11-3-3 on the year and advance to the CACC Tournament Championship Game for the third consecutive year. The team will face #3 Post University, who defeated #2 Wilmington College 1-0 this afternoon, on Saturday, October 28th at Tryon Field in Rutherford, NJ. Game time is set for 2pm.
