FOUR CHARGER SOCCER PLAYERS NAMED TO 2007 DIVISION II DAKTRONICS ALL-NEW ENGLAND REGION TEAM
Blauvelt, NY (11/8/07) Four members of the Dominican College men's soccer team were named to the 2007 Division II Daktronics All-New England Region team as was released this week. Seniors Jhonny Arteaga and Joseph Ruesgen were named to the First Team, while senior Robert Kelly and sophomore Joe Wright were named to the Second Team.
Arteaga, a native of Stamford, CT, was recently
named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of
the Year.He led the CACC in points (38), goals (16) and
game-winning goals (six) this season and also ranked second with
six assists. He scored 12 more points and four more goals than
anyone else in the conference in leading Dominican to its fourth
consecutive CACC regular-season championship.
Ruesegen, who hails from Campbeltown, Scotland, was a
pivotal member of the DC defense for the last three years as a
starter and a captain for the last two seasons. He has
started all 18 games for the Chargers this season. He
was named to the All-CACC First Team, All-CACC Tournament Team,
Daktronics Division II All-New England Men's Soccer Second Team and
the NSCAA/Adidas All-New England Region Second Team in 2006 and to
the Division II New England Regional All-Tournament Team in 2005.
Kelly, a native of Kearny, NJ, has been the starting
keeper for three years, has recorded eight shut outs this season
and set a new record at Dominican with 28 career shut outs.
He ranksed first in the CACC in goals against average, save
percentage and shut outs. He was named to the All-CACC First
Team and the All CACC Tournament Team in 2005 and the Second Team
in 2006. He was also named to the Daktronics Division II
All-New England Men's Soccer Second Team and the CoSIDA/ESPN The
Magazine Academic All-District Second Team in 2006.
Kelly has been ranked the last two years in the
nation in goals against average.
A sophomore from Stratford-Upon-Avon, England,
Wright, ranked seventh in the CACC in points
(19), tied for fifth in assists (5) and stood eighth in goals (7)
this season. Furthermore, he ranked first in the CACC in shots
per-game with 4.07 (61 total in 15 games). He was also named to the
All-Conference first team.
