CHARGERS SOCCER TURN BACK MERCY COLLEGE MAVERICKS
Orangeburg, NY (9/17/08) The Dominican College men's soccer team turned back the visiting Mavericks of Mercy College, 5-0 this afternoon in a non-conference game held at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.

Sophomore midfielder Edwin Miranda (Stamford, CT) netted the first goal of the game at 7:17. His first shot was blocked by a Maverick defender and came right back to him as he put a shot passed the Maverick keeper into the net.
Just under two minutes later, senior midfielder Diego Barahona (Stamford, CT) received a pass from junior James Hamilton (Paisley, Scotland) and netted a goal from the five yard line to give DC a 2-0 lead.
The Chargers kept on the offensive as junior forward Will Hansen (Staten Island, NY) scored a goal at 42:53 off the pass from rookie Morgan Rodriguez (Spackenkill, NY).
Less then a minute later Rodriguez netted his first collegiate goal off the dish by fellow freshman John Langdon (Bellport, NY) as the Chargers cruised into halftime with a 4-0 lead.
The game's final goal came at 62:25 as junior forward Joe Wright (Stratford-Upon-Avon, England) took a pass from Barahona and found the back of the net as Dominican went on to the 5-0 victory.
The Chargers controlled the offensive part of the game, out shooting the Mavericks 23-12.
Maverick keeper Martin Walsh (Dublin, Ireland) had four saves in the net in the loss, while DC starter Brandon Heembrock (Ottawa, Canada) had one save in 65:22 of action. Relief keeper Erik Shum (Carmel, NY) also had a save in the final 24:38 of the game.
With the win the Chargers improve to 4-2 on the season, while the Mavericks fall to 1-5.
Dominican is back in action on Saturday when they host Goldey-Beacom College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's soccer game. Game time is set for 12pm at North Rockland High School.
