2008 Dominican College Men's Soccer Season Summary
The Dominican College men's soccer team finished with an overall record of 11-4-2 and a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) record of 7-1-2. The Chargers finished second in the CACC behind Caldwell College and earned the second seed in the CACC Tournament.
With a first round bye, Dominican faced the sixth seeded Holy Family University Tigers and suffered a 3-1 loss to end the Chargers season.
Junior Joe Wright led the Chargers in scoring as he netted 12 goals and three assists for a total of 27 points before suffering a season ending injury in the 12th game of the year. Despite the injury, he was named to the All-CACC First Team and finished first in the conference in points per game (2.25) and goals per game (1.00), second in shots per game (4.0spg), seventh in points (27), tied for sixth in goals (12) and tied for third in game winning goals (4). For his efforts he was also named to the 2008 Division II Daktronics All-East Region Second Team.
Junior midfielder James Hamilton finished second on the team with eight goals and three assists for a total 19 points. He ranked tenth in the CACC in shots (53) and seventh in shots per game (3.31spg). He received All-CACC Second Team honors this year.
Freshman keeper Brandon Heembrock started all 17 games in the net for the Chargers this season. He finished the year with 71 saves for a .789 save percentage. He finished second in the CACC in save percentage and seventh in saves. He allowed 19 goals for a goals against average of 1.12 which ranked him first in the conference in goals against average. He was an All-CACC Second Team selection.
Teammates Craig Simpson and Diego Barahona tabbed All-CACC First Team spots and were All-Tournament selections, while defender Chris Wylie earned Honorable Mention honors. Shane Lowe was named to the CACC All-Academic Team.
The 2008 men's soccer team will graduate three players. Coach Campbell is confident with a strong recruiting class, the 2009 Chargers will once again return to the CACC Tournament Championship Game and to the NCAA Tournament.
