Dominican College Splits Double-Header With Goldey-Beacom College
Blauvelt, NY (3/21/06) The Dominican College softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference double-header this afternoon for the season’s home opener. Dominican took the first game 9-2, but Goldey-Beacom rallied with six runs in the fifth inning to win the second game, 8-5.
Dominican College Splits Double-Header With Goldey-Beacom College
Blauvelt, NY (3/21/06) The Dominican College softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference double-header this afternoon for the season’s home opener. Dominican took the first game 9-2, but Goldey-Beacom rallied with six runs in the fifth inning to win the second game, 8-5.
In game one, Dominican jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first off a two run homer by sophomore Christine Stathes (Cornwall, NY), scoring Jamie Ollari (Hopatcong, NJ) after she hit a one out double to left field. The Lady Chargers added a run in the bottom of the second as junior Michelle Krupna (Sparta, NJ) led off the inning with a triple and scored on the sacrifice fly by Sarah Beck (Milton, NY).
Goldey-Beacom answered with a run in the third as Megan
Harper (Atco, NJ) had an RBI single, scoring Sarah
Geman (King of Prussia, PA) after she led off the inning
with a single. The Lightning would add a run in the top of
the fifth to pull within one at 3-2 off the RBI single by
Brandy Ash (Dagsboro, DE).
However, DC would add three runs in both the bottom of the fifth
and sixth innings to pull ahead for the final 9-2 victory.
Ollari finished the game going 4-4 with 2 RBIs and
three runs scored. Stathes went 2-2 with
four RBIs and two runs scored. Krupna and
Hestermann both went 2-3 in the game.
Michelle Bark (West Milford, NJ) got the complete game win, allowing two runs and eight hits, while Kendra Russell (New Castle, PA) received the loss.
In game two, GBC exploded for six runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 7-2 lead, highlighted by back to back doubles by Ash and Kelly Halfen (Newark, DE). The Lady Chargers fought back in the bottom of the inning as sophomore Jackie Terpstra (Middletown, NY) hit a two run blast to left field to pull the team with in three runs. The team would add another run in the bottom of the sixth off the RBI double by Stathes, but the Lightning would add a run in the top of the seventh and come away with the 8-5 victory.
Jackie Torres (Morrisville, PA) got the win,
allowing four runs and nine hits in five innings, while
Stathes suffered the loss.
