Dominican College Lady Chargers Sweep University of Bridgeport
Blauvelt, NY (3/30/06) The regionally ranked Dominican College softball team swept a non-conference double-header from the University of Bridgeport this afternoon at Dominican College. The Lady Chargers won the first game 4-3 and held on for a 7-6 win in the night cap to improve to 17-7 on the year, while Bridgeport falls to 10-11.

Blauvelt, NY (3/30/06) The regionally ranked Dominican College softball team swept a non-conference double-header from the University of Bridgeport this afternoon at Dominican College. The Lady Chargers won the first game 4-3 and held on for a 7-6 win in the night cap to improve to 17-7 on the year, while Bridgeport falls to 10-11.
In game one, the Lady Chargers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first after sophomore Kristine Knuth (Staten Island, NJ) led off the game with a double to left field and came round to score on the two out RBI single by the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week, Sarah Beck (Milton, NY).
Bridgeport got the run back in the top of the second and added another run to take a 2-1 lead as Samantha Mantor (Fresno, CA) and Suzanne Parr (Juneau, AK) hit back to back singles. Parr stole second which allowed Mantor to score and she later came in on a passed ball.
Dominican tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom stanza when right fielder Christine Stathes (Cornwall, NY) hit a line shot down the right field line for a triple and scored a batter later on the RBI single to right by short stop Katie Farrugia (Cornwall, NY).
DC regained the lead in the fourth when Jackie Terpstra (Middletown, NY) led off the inning with a single to right and later scored on a Bridgeport error for the 3-2 lead. Melanie Hestermann (Lacey Township, NJ) hit a two out double in the bottom of the fifth, scoring Beck for what would end up being the game winning RBI as the Lady Chargers went up 4-2.
In the top of the seventh, Sarah Mantor (Fresno, CA) hit an RBI single to right, scoring Danielle Larson (Juneau, AK) who led off the inning with a walk to pull Bridgeport within one, 4-3. Reliever Michelle Krupna (Sparta, NJ) came to get the save as Parr grounded out to second base to end the game. Lady Charger pitcher, Michelle Bark (West Milford, NJ) got the win, fanning 10 batters to improve to 5-2 on the year.
In game two, DC jumped on the board in the first off back to back doubles by Farrugia and Beck. Bridgeport tied the game in the second off the RBI ground out by Larson, scoring Samantha Mantor who was hit by a pitch to get on base. The Lady Chargers exploded for six runs in the bottom stanza off of four hits and capitalizing on two Bridgeport errors to take 7-1 lead.
UB added a run in the third off the RBI double by Sarah Mantor scoring Lauren Galanti (Waterbury, CT) who had singled to lead off the inning. Parr scored a run to pull Bridgeport within four in the sixth inning on a fielder’s choice, making the score 7-3.
Bridgeport rallied in the seventh, scoring three runs, after a lead off single by Jacque McCaw (Loveland, CO) and another single by Nicole Composto (Staten Island, NY). Sarah Mantor hit an RBI double to score McCaw, followed by an RBI ground out by Ashley Larson (Juneau, AK). Samantha Mantor followed with another ground out to make the score 7-6, before Dominican starter Krupna got Parr to ground out to short to end the game.
Krupna improved to 6-2 on the year with the win.
The Lady Chargers are back in action tomorrow when they travel to the New York Institute of Technology in a non-conference double-header, slated to begin at 2:30pm.
