Blauvelt, NY (4/11/06) The Dominican College softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with the Eagles of Post University this afternoon in Blauvelt, NY. Dominican took the first game 8-2, while Post won the second game, 4-0.
In game one, Post jumped out to a 2-0 lead as Allison Williams (Montgomery, NY) had an RBI single. Dominican struck back for two runs as sophomore Jackie Terpstra (Middletown, NY) hit an RBI triple after senior Katie Farrugia (Cornwall, NY) got an RBI ground out to put the Lady Chargers in front 2-0. DC added two runs in the second, highlighted by a solo home run by junior Michelle Krupna (Sparta, NJ).
In the fifth inning, DC added to their lead as freshman Sarah Beck (Milton, NY) hit a three run homer to give the team a 7-2 lead. Farrugia added an insurance run in the sixth with an RBI single.
Christine Stathes (Cornwall, NY) picked up her tenth win of the season, while reliever Krupna had six strikeouts in two innings of work. Eagle pitcher Megan Pappas (Chester, NY) suffered the loss.
In the second game, Post scored three runs in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead. Williams led off the inning with a single, went to second on an error and came in to score as Priscilla Encarnacao (White Plains, NY) reached on a second Dominican error. Vanessa Lagares (Meriden, CT) got a two run single with two outs for the 3-0 lead.
The Eagles added a run in the fifth when Pappas scored Desere Obregon (Bogota, NJ), who had singled to lead off the inning, on a third DC error for the final run of the game in the 4-0 victory.
Dominican starter Michelle Bark (West Milford, NJ) suffered the loss, dropping her record to 6-5 on the year. Winning pitcher Crista Holtom (Waterloo, Ontario) picked up the win, scattering four hits and getting four strikeouts.
The Lady Chargers are back in action on Thursday when they host St. Thomas Aquinas College in a non-conference double-header, slated to begin at 3pm.
