Rockville Centre, NY (3/23/06) The Dominican College softball team split a non-conference double header with Molloy College, winning the first game 13-2 and dropping the second game 4-6.
The Lady Chargers jumped out toa 5-0 lead in the first inning as freshman Jamie Ollari (Hopatcong, NJ) led off the game with a double to left field, followed by a single to center by sophomore Christine Stathes (Cornwall, NY). Ollari scored on an infield ground out by firstbaseman Kristine Knuth (Staten Island, NY). Senior Katie Farrugia (Cornwall, NY) hit a one out RBI single to right field, scoring Jackie Terpstra (Middletown, NY) who had reached on a fielder's choice. Back to back Lion errors allowed two more runs to score with the final run being scored by freshman Melanie Hestermann (Lacey Township, NJ) as she was doubled home by Sarah Beck (Milton, NY).
Dominican added another five runs in the top of the third to take a commanding 10-0 lead, but Molloy scored a run in the bottom of the inning to make it 10-1. DC pounded out three more runs in the top of the fourth, while MC added a run in the bottom stanza for the final 13-2 score.
Beck finished the game going 3-3 with 4 RBIs, 2 doubles and one run scored. Farrugia went 2-3 with 2 RBIs and two runs scored, while pitcher Michelle Krupna (Sparta, NJ) got the win and hit a home run.
In game two, Dominican went ahead 2-0 in the top of the second inning as Molloy scored three runs in the bottom of the inning for a 3-2 game. Molloy added on another two runs in the bottom of the third to take a 5-2 lead.
The Lady Chargers fought back in the fifth inning as senior Kim Corrnachio (Poughkeepsie, NY) had a pinch hit RBI single, scoring Beck who had singled to right field. Ollari hit a single to right field, followed by a Molloy error which scored Hestermann who had single to center field to pull DC within one at 5-4. The Lions tacked on a run in the bottom of the sixth and that was when the game was called due to darkness.
Pitcher Michelle Bark (West Milford, NJ) suffered the loss as the team fell to 9-5 on the year.
Dominican is back in action on Saturday, March 25th when they host Bloomfield College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference double-header slated to begin at 12pm.
