Central Islip, NY (3/31/06) The Dominican College softball team split a non-conference double header with the New York Institute of Technology this afternoon, winning the first game 5-3, while the Bears took the night cap, 4-1.

Central Islip, NY (3/31/06) The Dominican College softball team split a non-conference double header with the New York Institute of Technology this afternoon, winning the first game 5-3, while the Bears took the night cap, 4-1.
The first game remained scoreless until the top of the fourth inning when the Lady Chargers struck for a run to take a 1-0 lead. Short stop Katie Farrugia (Cornwall, NY) reached on a two base error by the center fielder and moved over to third on a ground out by CACC Player of the Week, Sarah Beck (Milton, NY). Jackie Terpstra (Middletown, NY) then walked and tried to advance to second, getting caught in a run down, which allowed Farrugia to score.
The Bears tied the game in the bottom of the fifth as Jessica Cinnamon had an RBI single to left center.
Dominican added two runs a piece in the sixth and seventh innings, while the Bears rallied for two in the bottom of the seventh for the final 5-3 Lady Charger win.
Lead off hitter, Kristine Knuth (Staten Island, NY) went 2-4 in the game with two RBIs, while Beck finished 1-3 with one RBI and a run scored. Pitcher Christine Stathes (Cornwall, NY) picked up here seventh win of the season, allowing three runs, striking out five and six hits in the complete game.
In the night cap, NYIT capitalized on a four run third inning to take a 4-0 lead. The Lady Chargers rallied for a run in the fourth on the RBI single to right by Terpstra, scoring Farrugia who had doubled down the right field line with one out to put the team on the board, 4-1.
Lady Charger pitcher, Michelle Bark (West Milford, NJ) suffered the loss, allowing four runs, six hits and striking out eight batters.
Center fielder Jamie Ollari (Hopatcong, NJ) went 2-3 in the game.
The Lady Chargers now stand at 18-8 overall, while the Bears are 8-3.
Dominican is back in action tomorrow when they travel to Caldwell College for a Cental Atlantic Collegiate Conference double header, slated to begin at 12pm.
