Dominican Softball Splits With Southern Connecticut State University
Blauvelt, NY (4/1/07) The Dominican College softball team split a non-conference double header with visiting Southern Connecticut State University this afternoon at the DC Softball Field. The Lady Chargers dropped the first game, 5-2, but won the second game, 9-1 in five innings.
Dominican Softball Splits With Southern Connecticut State University
Blauvelt, NY (4/1/07) The Dominican College softball team split a non-conference double header with visiting Southern Connecticut State University this afternoon at the DC Softball Field. The Lady Chargers dropped the first game, 5-2, but won the second game, 9-1 in five innings.
In game one, SCSU scored a run in the second inning off a solo home run by Megan Caporossi (Northford, CT). They added four more runs in the sixth as Emily Atkinson (Novato, CA) led off the inning with a double and Caporossi reached base on an error. Monica Savarese (Orange, CT) then walked to load the bases and Brittany Gandley (Holbrook, NY) hit a grand slam as SCSU took a 5-0 lead.
DC scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh when Kristine Knuth (Staten Island, NY) got a one out single to right and Sarah Beck (Milton, NY) hit a two run homer with two outs.
Amanda Pindar (New Britain, CT) got the win, going 4 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and striking out four batters.
Danielle Garrison (Coatesville, PA) suffered the loss (2-1), pitching four innings.
In game two, The Lady Chargers got on the board early with three runs in the first inning as Garrison had an RBI ingle and junior Jackie Terpstra (Middletown, NY) had a double to left field which scored two runs. DC added two runs in the third on a two run home run by Garrison.
SCSU got on the board in the second inning as Savarese led off the inning with a single and came in to score on an RBI single by Amanda St. George (Shelton, CT).
In the fourth inning, Jamie Ollari (Hopatcong, NJ) hit a grand slam, giving Dominican a 9-1 lead.
Christine Stathes (Cornwall, NY) improved to 4-2 on the year with the complete game victory.
Kerry Iacomini (Pleasant Valley, NY) suffered the loss.
The Lady Chargers are back in action tomorrow when they travel to Felcian College at 3pm.
